Stratoniki

Stratoniki is one of the mountain villages of the Municipality of Aristotle, on the slopes of Mount Stratoniko, with an expansive view of Ierissos Bay and the Athos Peninsula. It was one of the 12 Mademochoria and its residents traditionally worked in the mines; the history of the Mount Stratoniko area is linked to the rich in ore lands since the time of Alexander the Great. It is surmised that it was built by Perdikkas, King of Macedonia, in honor of his sister, Stratoniki. The present-day village, with approximately 800 inhabitants, is practically joined with Stagira. Stratoniki has an excellent climate and lovely natural landscape, as it is surrounded by forests, mountains and the sea.
