Ammouliani

Ammouliani, located in the bay of the Athos Peninsula, is the only inhabited island in the region of Central Macedonia. It is just 130 km from Thessaloniki, easily accessible by ferryboat from the port of Trypiti. The municipal speedboat operates the night routes, while in the summer the number of routes increases greatly, due to high demand.

Ammouliani is inextricably linked to the tradition of Agion Oros. In the past, the island was a “metochi” [dependency] of the Vatopedi Monastery; it was inhabited by monks who managed the monastery’s properties. Their main activity was livestock breeding. In early 1925, the island was ceded to refugees from Asia Minor.

In Ammouliani you will find some of the most beautiful beaches in Halkidiki. Alykes, Karagatsia, Megali Ammos and Kalopigado are some of them. Most are organized, but they maintain a pleasant ambience of rest and relaxation.
