Swim at Komitsa Beach, near the border of Agion Oros

The beaches of Halkidiki are famous around the world for their picturesque beauty and crystal-clear waters. At least, when someone mentions Halkidiki, the beaches are the first thing that comes to mind. But if you haven’t been to Komitsa, you probably don’t know what a true Halkidiki beach is like. A huge expanse of sand, calm sheltered and relatively shallow waters ideal for small children, quiet, far from busy organized beaches, and nothing but sea, sky and green as far as the eye can see.

Being close to the border with Agion Oros has protected Komitsa from the type of excessive construction evident elsewhere in Greece. A short walk will lead you to the border of Agion Oros and the sentry house, where the secular world ends, and entry is prohibited. If you are a bit of a diver, you can easily bring up smooth clams, nestled at a depth of just 2 m., a sign of how clean the waters are. There is no beach bar or restaurant, just peace and quiet.

At a distance of 3 km along the beach you will come across the Komitsa Camping in a small inlet, and a refreshment stand with the bare necessities and no music, just hospitable people. You can reach the beach by passing through Nea Roda; after 3 km. of asphalt road, you will need to continue for another 2 km. on a passable dirt road. But one thing is certain: Komitsa will enchant you!
