Cultural Center of Ierissos

At the Cultural Center of Ierissos, a specially designed room hosts the painting exhibition by the great Greek artist Makis Varlamis, dedicated to Mount Athos. In the same space, you can watch the new 3D film ‘Angels of Light,’ dedicated to the monastic life of the Holy Mount Athos, in the 3D projection hall. The constitution of Mount Athos prohibits the entry of women. Through the exhibition and the film, this prohibition can be ‘broken,’ allowing women and people of all ages to experience the harmony and spiritual atmosphere of the monastic community. But the tour doesn’t end here! In the rooms on the lower floor of the Cultural Center, you can visit the Folklore Museum and the photographic exhibition ‘1000 Years in 100 Photographs,’ featuring images from Mount Athos, as well as photographic material from the earthquake that devastated the old town of Ierissos in September 1932.
